Today

Today I have a headache.  I didn’t sleep well so I’m tired.  My blood sugars are all over the map.  And I’m feeling saddened by the state of the world.

So today I am giving myself permission to go slow.  To not accomplish everything on my list.  To make breathing, a cup of tea, and listening to the birds outside my window the only items to be added to my to-do list.

I am for once heeding words that I regularly share with clients. 

“You don’t need to keep going to your breaking point.  Rest and nourish yourself long before you get to breaking.”

Even this post is going to be shorter (and later!) than I had planned.  We are all allowed to take the time we need to breathe and restore ourselves before we are in crisis.  As we learn to recognize our own unique warning signs of burnout and overwhelm, we can respond to those needs with kindness and care.   We can do that early and often and avoid the crisis completely.   It is okay to take care of ourselves in the big moments and the small. 

Today, that is enough.
